Postmans Track May 11

Sat, 11 May 2024
08:00 - 17:00

The famous 19km Nightcap Postmans Track joins Mt Nardi with Rummery Park Campground. The track has recently been restored. The eastern half will become part of the 4-day Hinterland Trail route ( with a new campground being built where the path joins Gibbergunyah Rd ).

In the early days when the northern rivers were literally too big to cross, the mail from Lismore was sent to the Dunoon Post Office and then the Dunoon postie rode his horse along part of this track to get the mail to Murwillumbah. The story goes that the big hollow tree was his 'Night Camp'. Later this was contracted to Nightcap, the name of the Park.

This is a full day hike with many views to the north over the Tweed Valley, as well as ridge-top views into the Terania Basin. The plan is to meet at Rummery Park at 8am sharp. Half the hikers will then drive to Mt Nardi to commence their hike and the rest start hiking west towards Mt Nardi. When this group meets the others, they hand over their car keys so the west-bound group can drive back to Rummery.

For those who like camping, the Club will book 2 sites for Friday and Saturday nights. There will be a fire for roasting marshmellows. There will be a light walk on Sunday as well.
