Margaret River Coastal Region
07-09-2024 09:00 – 15-09-2024 15:00
Immerse yourself into the boundless natural beauty of the Margaret River Coastal Region along one of the region's amazing tracks. The 130km  Cape to Cape Track traverses the length of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and overlooks the adjoining Ngari Capes Marine Park, alternating spectacular sweeping cliff-top views with stretches of pristine beach. At any time of the year there's a good chance of seeing dolphins, and between June and September whales pass close to shore. It's not all about the coast though, there are several inland forays which take in some lovely sheltered woodland sections as well as the magnificent Boranup Forest of towering karri. The Track varies from the 'access for more' section to Cape Naturaliste with a shallow gradient and a smooth, wide constructed surface to steep, rough stony paths and sandy beaches. It is for hikers only - except where the route follows some of the 4WD tracks that are frequented by surfers accessing their favourite breaks at this world-famous surf location. The whole track is a usually 6 - 7 days. The overnight options include some very basic camping areas for Track walkers only, campgrounds with more facilities and vehicle access and, this being the tourist mecca of the Margaret River wine region, maybe a night off in the town, For most of the year Margaret River, about mid-way along the track, can be crossed with care at its mouth, but there are periods in winter when conditions don't allow a safe crossing and walkers will have to take an inland diversion to cross at the bridge upstream. (The river mouth can be accessed by vehicle at the southern side, but not from the north - walkers from the north have no alternative but to retrace their steps if the river mouth cannot be crossed). Grade 4 in some patrs, formed paths in others. Leader Steve 0414312917, asst. Barbara Route and GPX file

Nature Writing Walk
South Golden Beach Hall
09:00 – 12:30
You love nature writing either reading or writing it and you like the idea of a short forest bathing walk to get into the mood. Perhaps you’ve been inspired after the recent Byron Writers Festival. This is a walk to write and read about nature. We’ll start with a short walk to connect with our natural surroundings. Then I’ll offer a few writing prompts to engage your nature muse and we’ll sit amongst the trees to write or draw with whatever comes to mind. We’ll finish in a circle with reading time. You can either read what you have written, or read another piece of nature writing that you love from another author. You may prefer to simply listen and not read at all; nothing is compulsory.  Our walk will start at the South Golden Beach Hall where there is shelter and toilets. We will walk behind the sand dunes where it is heavily treed and be finished by lunchtime. Grade 2 Leader: David Roland. Enquires: david@davidroland.com.au
