Simpson Creek, Brunswick Heads - paddle Saturday January 18 2025
1st Brunswick Heads Scout Hall
09:30 – 13:00
We will follow the high tide up from Brunswick Heads and then through Tyagarah Nature Reserve. The water is generally crystal clear at high tide, and you may find stingrays and fish are easy to spot, while birdlife abounds. We will explore a side branch on the way to get up close to mangroves and wildlife, then lunch on a large sandy bank at the halfway point. From there we can continue south - a 3 hour paddle from Brunswick will bring us to Tyagarah airstrip - or we can return to Brunswick Heads after lunch,  judging by participants willingness or otherwise. Life jackets are ideal but not essential as it is a small protected coastal estuary. Must be able to swim well. Bring lunch, water, hat, sunscreen and mozzie repellent (just in case). Bookings essential: Contact with leader essential. Leader: Sandy sandylpimm@gmail.com 0415 239 620 Free event for members, $5 for guests Meet details Meet at the scout hall on South Beach Road (head for the surf club and its nearly opposite) at 9.30am for a 10am start. I have a double sit on top kayak spare if anyone needs to borrow one – they might have to help with transport though. The other option is to hire a kayak from Brunswick Heads https://www.brunswickboathire.com.au/kayak-hire

Protesters Falls walking track
17-01-2025 17:00 – 19-01-2025 15:00
Meeting at the Protesters Falls picnic area at 5pm Friday, we will hike into the Terania Basin for about an hour before setting up camp. On Saturday we will hike further up the Creek, then climb to The Crags which give an aerial view of the whole Basin. Then a scramble back into the Creek and a short distance up Beech Creek to where we camp in a clearing just below a large swimming hole with a lovely cascade. On Sunday we return via the Camels hump and the base of the 100m waterfall on Batcave Creek, which is above the 60m Protester Falls.  Because of summer heat, these are very short distances with lots of swimming and will suit anyone new to overnight hiking. Please phone Steve with any questions. 0424312917 Assistant leaders, Pauline & Berri

Hells Hole Falls Christmas walk Saturday 14 December
Middle Ridge Road
08:30 – 15:00
A Christmas walk along the gorgeous and unspoilt Rowland’s Creek to the base of Hells Hole in Mount Jersulalem National Park. We'll do a nature connection activity to settle our nervous system which can be frayed at this time of year and then have laughs with a few nature-based games. We will walk along the creek to the base of Hells Hole waterfall to a deep waterhole for swimming, lunch and chats. Bring along a treat to share as we chill by the waterhole. A beautiful and cool spot. Grade 3 walk with some rock hopping along the creek. There is a 2 km descent down a good trail to the creek and we will return the same way. Less than 6 kms walking in all. Leader: David Roland Enquries: david@davidroland.com.au Assisted by Steve Millard and Sandy Pimm. I will send out a group email Thursday evening with the meeting details and any last minute changes.

07-12-2024 08:00 – 08-12-2024 16:00
This is a chance to learn the skills of multi day hiking from experts in the Club. The emphasis is on planning the lightest pack possible and choosing lightweight food, rather than covering long distances each day, while still visiting some amazing rainforest and swimming spots in Nightcap. We are also thinking of starting at 6pm on the Friday night and hiking 90 minutes to our cliff top camp. We will have a zoom meeting at 7pm on Tuesday Nov 26th to plan a packing list. Evans Head Beach
08:30 – 15:00
Join me for a walking tour of the Evans Head heathlands where the native flowers are blossoming. This will be a leisurely stroll along the heathland tracks where we can observe birds, flowers and insects. Bring you camera, binoculars, drawing materials or none of these, as we take time to enjoy this pristine heathland. We'll walk down to the beach for a lunchtime dip and walk back along the coast to our vehicles. I haven't mapped out the exact route yet because I have been away. However, there are plenty of options and we can even decide on the day. Meet at 8.30 am at the BP Service Station at the intersection of Bruxner Highway and the motorway to carpool and head on to Evans Head which is 30 minutes drive away. We aim to commence our walk from Evans Head by 9.15am. Leader David Roland Enquries: david@davidroland.com.au

Mrs Birdy
08:30 – 12:00
An easy 8km walk, starting and finishing with coffee (if you like) at Mrs Birdy in South Golden Beach. We walk through the streets and up the hill to the start of the Optus trail and then through Eucalypt forest and Melaleuca wetlands to the beach. High tide is at 10.30 (1.8m) so there may be some soft sand or bare foot walking for a couple of Km back to South Golden Beach. There are also a couple of creek crossings, generally not more than ankle deep, so walking sandals or old sandshoes are a good idea. Swimming is an option, bearing in mind that this beach is unpatrolled. Please do not park in the Mrs Birdy parking spots but on the road that leads down to the beach beside Mrs Birdy (Peter Street) or on the waterfront. We often finish well before 12pm The walk starts at 8.30am please arrive earlier if you want to grab a coffee. Grade 2, Leader Dave Froggatt, 0402470546
